The food court at Georgia Gwinnett College earned an ?A? on its most recent health report card. But that?s after failing an initial routine inspection late last month.
The student food service consists of a Quiznos sub shop and three cafes operated by Sodexo. The company is in charge of all on-campus dining services at GGC, said college spokeswoman Sally Ramey.
During the initial routine inspection, the health score was lowered to a 64/U because management had no parasite destruction documentation for the raw fish sushi. Also, employees did not keep track of how long cooked chicken wings and strips were left in a hot holding cabinet.
In other code violations, foods were not stored properly in the freezer and cooler, and an employee working with raw chicken wore the same pair of gloves for multiple tasks.
After re-inspection, the health score improved to a 90/A. There were still problems with food storage, and some yogurt in a self-service display had to be discarded because it been there ?too long. And ?sushi is off the menu, at least for now.
Sodexo spokesman Greg Yost said the company is committed to following strict safety procedures and guidelines in its food operations. He said the initial health inspection did not meet company standards and Sodexo addressed the issue immediately.
?Our operations at the college were re-inspected and we earned an A rating, which is in-line with our outstanding inspection track record on the campus, dating back to 2008,? he said.
Current scores of other GGC dining services ?include: student center dining hall, 90/A; and GGCity Caf?, 100/A.
